KSER Volunteer Wins NFCB Volunteer-of-the-Year Award!

KSER Board member and past-President, Candace McKenna has been named Volunteer of the Year by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB). NFCB represents thousands of volunteers from over 200 community radio stations nation-wide.

McKenna, a Snohomish resident, was recognized April 2 during the annual NFCB conference held in Portland, Ore., for her extraordinary service to community and KSER, Everett’s public radio station serving Snohomish and Island counties.

“I value community and am drawn to work that builds community,” says McKenna, who has volunteered on the KSER Board of Directors for nearly nine years. “By building a strong community radio station, we strengthen our community.”

As the board president for four years, McKenna led the station through an enormous amount of growth, raising money through new partnerships, securing grants and laying the groundwork for the station’s first strategic plan.

“With Candace’s leadership, the station reached new levels of service to the community,” says KSER General Manager Bruce Wirth, who nominated McKenna for the NFCB award. “She sets ambitious goals, but her energy, commitment, and hard work help everyone at KSER to realize the station’s full potential.”
