Human Trafficking of Women - THURS. 8:15AM
In early March, the Zonta Club of Everett presented their second annual "Ignore No More" Forum at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Each year the forum explores women's rights and other issues of importance with the goal of inspiring action to the improve the status of women world wide.
The 2009 Forum focused on human trafficking and featured two guests: Dr. Sutapa Basu and Emma Catague. Dr. Basu is the Executive Director of the University of Washington Women's Center and is internationally recognized as an advocated for young immigrant women, particularly victims of human trafficking. Emma Catague is a founder of the Asian Pacifica Islander Safety Center and a well known community organizer against human trafficking amongst the Asian and Pacifica Island populations.
Emma Catague is heard first. You will also hear excerpts from the Documentary "I Just Keep Quiet: Voices of Human Trafficking", produced for the Refugee Women's Alliance and the Seattle Police Department.
