I have been lucky enough to be around music all my life. In 1998, I retired from radio after a more than satisfying career. I spent the next 10 years sitting on the beach. But, something was missing, so I decided to go back on the air and “give back” to a profession that allowed me to retire at age 55.

My number one professional goal is to now teach the history of Rock N Roll on the air by featuring a show that is music intensive and artist driven. The show is called The Rock N Roll Time Machine; however, a good sub-title would be “the songs you grew up with and will probably never hear again.”

KSER FM has given me room to do my instructive show. Sundays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm will be Rockin’ on 90.7 FM or KSER.ORG

I look forward to hearing from you via email or my website.

Send me your requests and questions; I enjoy hearing from my listeners. Remember, you make this show possible.

Thanks Friends

radio dawgie style

What was so magical about 40-50 years ago?

In a world where a school kid (junior high, high school, junior college 1960-1970) had to fit into a group (or clique', as we called them) of either jock, stoner, square, or nark, I found nothing to relate to...except listening to the radio...an occupation that spread across all known human groups.

It just so happens that I was in one of the best regions in the country, at the best time, to be doing such a thing. The Pacific NorthWest was then (and is now), too large to be ignored, yet too small to call the shots. Being there makes it possible to bring the little known to the spotlight and, perhaps, get that stuff heard by the 'greater universe'...if we could ask Kurt C., he could probably illuminate this concept in great length as his short, wild ride into music history was fueled by this very concept.

But then, so were many others in a previous wave...one that took place during the aforementioned chunk of time when I first started dreaming of playing great music on the radio - late at night...oh yeah, that was definitely part of my dream...the all-night shift...when the 'real people' are awake!!...I would lay in bed all night long, pretending to work the turntables and the mic, having ‘conversations’ with the person on the air, just wishing I could be there…

So what was so magical about 40-50 years ago?

Well, one thing was, indeed, the radio...KOL, KJR...Lan Roberts, Robert O. Smith, and Danny Holiday...for all those reasons...it was the time and those guys had the talent...all of which made life more fun than it really was...

Another thing that was happening to fire my imagination was the inception of KRAB fm at 107.7...Tom Robbins, Tiny Freeman, and Bob Friede...this station, the child of Lorenzo Milam, was pushed into existence so we could experiment with what could be done with the then 'educational' radio frequencies that the FCC were giving away at the time...this turned out to be 'my little spot’ on the dial.

My first ‘baby steps’ were to attend and graduate The Ron Bailie School of Broadcast (“You’ll feel better when you’re on the air!”) and play music of the best ignored band of the time, The KinKs, on KRAB. As it turns out, during a five year run at the start of things, I managed to do both things that ‘self-destruct’ a radio career…broadcast school and non commercial radio…yes, I had ‘head shots’, audition tapes, and a resume guaranteed to get you ‘round filed’ at any ‘respectable’ station in the country…little did I know…very little…

And now… Here it is … 2008…and even though I am now an engineer at the boeing company instead of a ‘famous’ dj, I am still doing that little radio show (now on KSER) and still having a real kick doing it…only now, one of the most famous of the gang I used to listen to as a child is now a fellow staff member at that very radio station….

All this is to say Welcome To The Circus Danny!!!
-and, thanks for all the memories, my friend…
