Mary Ellen Wood

Mary Ellen Wood

Mary Ellen Wood is an educator by trade, a story catcher and connector. Her first brush with radio was WPGU/University of Illinois, Champaign. She hosted After Midnight. Oddly, few knew her as Mary Ellen. In a teasing moment when asked her name she said ‘Philbert’ and that was it for several years of her radio college endeavor. Source of that name? She was reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X. His brother’s name was …Philbert. True. She enjoys a variety of music, taking time to ponder, laughing heartily with friends and spending time with her family (one husband, 2 grown up kids and Louie the dog) and extended family. To her recent surprise she calculated she’s been hosting Community Life for either side of 30 years. The stories keep her coming back.
